ASP.NET 2.0 Data Control Tips & Tricks — Paul Litwin Nov. 20, 12:30 — 1:45 p.m., Arnold Building, M4-A805/A817
We've all seen the basic drag and drop demos of the 2.0 data controls, but you don't build solutions using demo code. In this brown bag talk, you'll dig deeper into the ASP.NET 2.0 data controls and the data source controls. During this talk, you'll learn such things as how to add drop-down and check-box fields, how to set a default field value for inserts, how to update database fields that don't appear in a FormView or DetailsView, how to create GridView controls that can be bound to different datasets on the fly, and how to deal with Identity columns during inserts. This talk represents all the things I learned (the hard way) building applications for various Fred Hutchinson clients in ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005.
