The Center welcomes the return of a familiar face, Mark Boyer, as the new director of sponsored research. "We conducted a national search, and are extremely fortunate to have Mark Boyer accept the position," said Randy Main, vice president and chief financial officer.

Boyer's career at the Hutchinson Center began in 1984, as a specialist in the Grants and Contracts office. During the next 15 years, he also served as manager of shared resources, senior financial analyst, and director of budget and reimbursement. Between 1999 and 2004, Boyer was the director of finance for the Pacific Northwest Research Institute. In his role there, he oversaw grants and contracts, all finance and accounting functions, facilities, operations and environmental health and safety. Later in 2004, Boyer became the chief executive officer of the Institute for Chemical Genomics, where he was responsible for all financial, administrative and operational functions. For the past six months, Boyer has been an independent consultant and has worked on various special projects at the Center.
