Five new faculty positions open

Recruitment is under way for several faculty positions in two of the Center's scientific divisions. Search updates will appear in future issues of Center News.

Basic Sciences Division
• Basic Scientist
An opening is available for a junior faculty member. An outstanding candidate is sought to take imaginative study approaches to any area of biology that complements existing research programs. (Search committee chair: Dr. Maxine Linial)

Clinical Research Division
• Phase 1 Clinical Trials Program Director
A position (any level) in the Clinical Research Division and the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine is open for a physician/scientist with an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. to develop and maintain a Phase 1 clinical-trials program. Duties include developing new early phase clinical trials, either industry — or investigator — initiated; helping to coordinate the infrastructure needed for such studies, including research nurses, data coordinators, regulatory affairs, tissue acquisition and biostatistical support; working with medical oncology and other faculty to assure patient accrual to studies; and direct care of a portion of the study patients. • Pathologist
The Center and the UW School of Medicine seek a physician who is at least board-eligible in anatomic pathology to join the pathology faculty. This assistant or associate member will be part of the Pathology Department at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, with responsibilities including collaborative research and providing pathology expertise for large and very active programs in hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation and immunotherapy for cancer and evaluating tissue biopsy and marrow material, specifically exploring graft-vs.-host disease, infection, regimen-related toxicity, minimal residual disease and tumor response. • Breast Cancer Researcher
An M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. physician/scientist (any level) position with active laboratory research and clinical expertise in a breast cancer-related discipline is open. Candidates with translational-research interests and a desire to join a strong cross-disciplinary research team in breast cancer are encouraged. A joint appointment may be made to other Center divisions and to the full-time faculty in an appropriate department at the UW. (Search committee chair: Dr. Peggy Porter)

• Cytogenetics Laboratory Director
The Center and SCCA seek a director of the Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory. Primary responsibilities include review of cases and sign-off on all reports, oversight of personnel, and the introduction of new technologies to maintain up-to-date protocols. Approximately 40 percent of work time is protected for research, with ample opportunities for collaboration and access to outstanding core facilities. Ph.D. or M.D. candidates must be board-eligible/certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical Cytogenetics. (Search committee chair: Dr. Fred Appelbaum)
