The Basic Sciences Division retreat gathered more than 175 of its faculty and staff members Sept. 19-20 at the Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine.
Dr. Laurie Zoloth, director of Bioethics for the Center of Genetic Medicine at Northwestern University, spoke on the ethics of science.
Dr. Judith Kimble, a Vilas professor and Howard Hughes investigator in medical genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, spoke about her lab's work regarding the regulation of animal development in controlling cell fate and patterning within multicellular tissues. Kimble is also a member of the Basic Sciences Division's External Scientific Advisory Board.
The program included short research presentations by faculty and a poster session highlighting projects conducted by the division's postdocs, graduate students and technicians.
