Epidemiology survey course for graduate students begins Oct. 9
Brief
September 21, 2006
A five-part lecture series on epidemiology begins next month. The introductory course focuses on questions about the causes of cancer and infectious disease and the ways in which epidemiologists think about and design studies to answer such questions.
The course is intended as a survey of epidemiology for graduate students who are considering applying for the joint molecular and cellular biology Ph.D./ epidemiology master's degree program. However, all scientists are welcome to attend. The first 15 who commit to attending all five lectures will receive a copy of "Medical Epidemiology" by Dr. Raymond Greenberg.
The lectures and informal lunch will be held on Mondays, noon-1 p.m., in B1-072, as follows:
- Oct. 9 Dr. Mary Anne Rossing, "An Overview of Epidemiology"
- Oct. 16 Dr. Sarah Benki, "Epidemiology of HIV"
- Oct. 23 Dr. Chris Li, "Epidemiology of Breast Cancer"
- Oct. 30 Dr. Gloria Coronado, Title TBA
- Nov. 6 Dr. Tom Vaughan, "Epidemiology of Barrett's and Esophageal Adenocarcinoma"
- Nov. 13 A lunch is scheduled for prospective graduate students in the molecular and cellular biology Ph.D./epidemiology master's joint-degree program with joint-degree program co-directors and former joint-degree students.
