Dr. Phil Gafken, Matt Fitzgibbon and Damon May will present a mass spectrometry-based proteomics course Aug. 13-17, 2-5 p.m. The course is for Center staff members who currently utilize proteomics or plan to use proteomics in the near future. It will give novice users a solid understanding of the technology and the ability to apply proteomics to their research.
Module 1 (Monday through Wednesday) will include details about mass spectrometers, protein identification and quantification by mass spectrometry, characterization of post-translational modifications, acquisition of data, analysis of complex mixtures, and sample preparation for mass spectrometry. Module 2 (Thursday and Friday) will include database search algorithms and analysis of proteomics data. The final day of the course will take place in the computer-training center. Participants will receive hands-on demonstrations of the software tools available at the Center for analyzing proteomics data and results.
