Khin Nu has joined the Public Health Sciences Division as the new international research manager for the Breast Health Global Initiative. For the past five and a half years, Nu has worked with more than 20 principal investigators on various virology research projects in a joint University of Washington/Hutchinson Center program.

Nu left her home in Burma while in medical school due to political unrest and government instability in the country. She moved to Seattle and received her master's in public health from the UW.

"Khin brings great depth and experience in research administration and we are very pleased that she has joined the BHGI," said Leslie Sullivan, BHGI program manager.

Nu will manage the international pilot research and demonstration projects the BHGI is launching in conjunction with the publication of its Guidelines for International Breast Health and Cancer Control. Funding comes from a $500,000 award from Susan G. Komen for the Cure (formerly the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation). Co-sponsored by the Center and Komen, the BHGI is an international public-health alliance for underserved women. Learn more at www.fhcrc.org/science/phs/bhgi.
