The Nov. 16 Science Friday, noon-1 p.m. in Pelton Auditorium, will feature two 30-minute videos focused on the history of the Hutchinson Center.

The first "Full Focus" video highlights the Center's pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation and the vision for the future direction of cancer research.

Those interviewed include: Dr. Lee Hartwell, Center president and director; Dr. E. Donnall Thomas and, his wife and research partner, Dottie Thomas (Clinical Research Division); Charlotte Hutchinson Reed, the daughter of Center founder Dr. Bill Hutchinson; former Center News editor Clay Eals, a Center historian currently writing a book on the life of Fred Hutchinson; baseball historian Dave Eskanazi; Joan McAree, a survivor of breast and ovarian cancer, who serves as a cancer-awareness advocate at the Center; and Joan's identical twin sister, Jean Christ, who is participating in a Center early detection study; among others.

The second video, which aired on KBTC-TV in September, highlights the Center's pivotal role in the development of bone-marrow transplantation. Those interviewed include the Thomases; Dr. Rainer Storb and Dr. Beverly Torok-Storb, Clinical Research Division; Hartwell and Hutchinson Reed.

Science Friday will take a holiday in December, but returns Jan. 18. If you have questions, contact Dr. Karen Peterson at (206) 667-5319.
