Greg Sparks, president of Safeway Inc., Seattle Division, accepted the 2007 E. Donnall Thomas Medal of Achievement at the Thomas Award Luncheon for Business Leadership. The event was held at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle on Oct. 9.

One of the nation's largest supermarket chains, Safeway Inc. has raised millions of dollars for charitable causes with the support of its employees and customers. The Thomas Medal is named after the Center's Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, director emeritus of the Clinical Research Division, who in 1990 received the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for his pioneering achievements in bone-marrow transplantation. The annual award celebrates companies and business leaders who, like Thomas, have dedicated their lives to excellence and compassion.
