Catch a Cure events double success

The Moyer Foundation's annual Catch a Cure for Cancer campaign, which ran through September, doubled the amount raised from last year.

A collaboration of the Hutchinson Center and The Moyer Foundation, the annual Catch a Cure for Cancer campaign raises funds for early cancer-detection research at the Center. Events include a celebrity waiters dinner and radiothon.

The Celebrity Waiters Dinner held Aug. 19 raised $265,000 and the radiothon raised nearly $130,000.

Radio station WARM 106.9 ran special Catch a Cure for Cancer programming all day, including dozens of stories of former patients and others whose lives have been touched by cancer. The Moyer Foundation reports that phoned-in and online pledges were up twofold over last year for the Sept. 12 radiothon.

Founded by former Seattle Mariners All-Star pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen, the foundation is dedicated to offering encouragement, comfort and support to children and families who are enduring times of profound stress.
