Clinical research symposium set for Sept. 21

The University of Washington General Clinical Research Center will host its third annual symposium, "Obesity 2007: Pathophysiology and the Public Health Dimension," Friday, Sept. 21, 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The symposium will take place in the UW Medical Center Health Sciences Building, K-069 Auditorium. A catered lunch will follow.

Noted speakers from the UW, Hutchinson Center and the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center will discuss the biology of human obesity and diabetes, surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, and environmental contributors to the obesity epidemic in both children and adults.

Dr. Bonnie Ramsey, professor of pediatrics and director of the CHRMC Cystic Fibrosis Center will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the event. Also, two outstanding pediatric and adult clinical researchers will receive Young Investigator Awards.

The GCRC, funded by the National Institutes of Health, is a multidisciplinary research facility that helps investigators conduct research with human subjects under the highest standards of safety. It provides facilities and resources for peer-reviewed clinical studies.
