Fun facts from the annual feast

Photo by Lillian Furlong The annual Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance staff barbecue took place Aug. 21 in the plaza between the Arnold and Thomas buildings. The event featured food, live music, games and the announcement of the Wyckoff Award winner.

As you may imagine, pulling off a barbecue for 3,278 of your closest colleagues from two organizations is no easy feat. But last month's annual Hutchinson Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance faculty/staff barbecue went off seamlessly.

The event was organized by Kim Williams, employment manager, and Stephanie Otis, who Williams described as her "amazing right-hand" administrative assistant.

Williams thanks a supporting cast of many, including Jan Oliver, food services manager, and her staff and food vendors. "Jan was all about the details with a smile and grace," Williams said. Kudos also go to the Facilities team; to Shelly DaRonche in Transportation; Vince Gipson, event services supervisor; Rem Remington, audio visual specialist; the Information Technology team; the Administrative leadership group, including game organizers Jennifer Larson and Rod Olzendam; housekeeping staff members; and to the volunteer barbecue chefs.

All together, this is what we consumed:

• 4,500 bottles of beverages
• 1,920 burgers.
• 816 veggie burgers
• 1,368 brats
• 550 pounds of pulled pork, plus gallons of sauce
• 900 pounds of watermelon
• served on more than 3,000 plates and 2,800 bowls (recyclable)

Prepare to do it all again — around the same time, next year.
