A symposium, "Obesity 2007: Pathophysiology and the Public Health Dimension," will take place Friday, Sept. 21, 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the University of Washington's Medical Center Health Sciences Building, K-069 Auditorium. The third annual symposium, hosted by the UW General Clinical Research Center, will conclude with a catered lunch.
Noted speakers from the UW, Hutchinson Center and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center will discuss the biology of human obesity and diabetes, surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, and environmental contributors to the obesity epidemic in both children and adults.
Dr. Bonnie Ramsey, professor of pediatrics and director of Children's Cystic Fibrosis Center will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the event. Also, two outstanding pediatric and adult clinical researchers will receive Young Investigator Awards.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the General Clinical Research Center is a multidisciplinary research facility that helps investigators conduct research with human subjects under the highest standards of safety. It provides facilities and resources for peer-reviewed clinical studies.
