Go2Net.com Shore Run attracts 4,000, raises $200,000 for cancer research
The
Go2Net.com Shore Run and Walk drew a record crowd June 25 to support cancer
research at the Hutchinson Center. More than 4,000 people ran or walked—1,000
more than last year—raising $200,000. For several years, Bob Yapp, of Puyallup,
Wash., has been the top individual fund-raiser. This year was no exception as
he raised more than $7,000. In its 23rd year, the Shore Run is one of the longest-running
annual events at the Hutch. The Broadmoor-Washington Park Guild organizes the
run each year.

Seahawk star Jacob Green’s annual charity golf tournament brings in record $180,000
The annual
Jacob Green Charity Golf Classic raised more than $180,000 June 22–23, a 50
percent increase over last year’s total. Four hundred people attended the annual
celebrity golf tournament at Mill Creek Country Club and dinner auction at the
Westin Hotel in Seattle. Host Jacob Green— the former Seattle Seahawks star—sent
special thanks to the Westin for sponsoring the dinner and to Seahawks community
outreach director Sandy Gregory for her invaluable assistance organizing the
tournament.
Thanks to all who supported these activities that raised funds for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
The Spirit of Spring Cruise raised $3,000 on April 15. More than 250 people attended the evening dinner cruise around Puget Sound, hosted by the Zumwalt Guild. Thanks to sponsors Parr Ford, United Parcel Service and East Bremerton Rotary Club.
The E. Donnall Thomas Medal of Achievement Dinner June 17 drew a record 1,300 people and raised $1.6 million for cancer research at the Hutch. Thanks to our generous underwriters: General Motors, Aon, Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. and Vulcan Northwest Inc. (See article on page 16.)
The Jacob Green Charity Golf Classic June 22 and 23 drew 400 participants to Mill Creek Country Club and the Westin Hotel. The golf tournament, dinner and auction raised $180,000 for the Hutch. Thanks to our sponsors: the Westin Hotel, Alaska and Horizon Airlines and Costco Wholesale.

The Climb to Fight Breast Cancer drew 18 mountain climbers in July and August to scale Glacier Peak, Mount Baker or Mount Daniel. Together, they raised $50,000 for the Hutch’s breast-cancer research. Thanks to sponsor Newsradio 710 KIRO.
