Thirty-eight
mountain climbers-young and old, expert and novice-joined with the Hutchinson
Center this summer in the 2001 Climb to Fight Breast Cancer. Scaling Mount Adams,
Mount Baker and Mount Rainier to raise money for breast-cancer research, they
gathered more than $125,000 for their efforts, a new record for the event.
"In a few short years, our climbers have turned this into a top fund-raiser for the Hutchinson Center," said Tori Griffith, associate director of special events. "The climbers-some of whom are cancer survivors themselves-are an inspiration."
Special thanks go to media sponsor KIRO Newsradio 710.

More
than 300 people turned out to honor the "voice of the Seattle Seahawks" and
support the Hutchinson Center at the annual Pete Gross House Luncheon Aug. 3.
The audience at Husky Stadium helped raise more than $125,000 for the Pete Gross
House, the patient-housing complex named for the late broadcaster. During his
keynote address, former Seahawk quarterback Dave Krieg honored Gross, who died
of cancer in 1992. KIRO TV newsman Steve Raible was master of ceremonies for
the luncheon. Acura of Seattle, Costco Wholesale, Greenbaum Home Furnishings
and Residence Inn by Marriott sponsored the event.

New cookbook to raise funds for pediatric cancer research
Bread pudding from the kitchen of Edgar Martinez, tiramisu from pitcher John Halama's favorite restaurant in Brooklyn, Nantucket crab cakes from General Manager Pat Gillick, and Japanese recipes brought straight from home by Ichiro Suzuki and Kazuhiro Sasaki. These are just a few of the dishes included in the latest edition of a cookbook of favorite recipes from Seattle Mariners players and staff, which benefits the Hutchinson Center's pediatric oncology programs.
"Starters & Closers" features more than 80 appetizer and dessert recipes, full color photos of each player with his favorite foods and tidbits about their preferences for fast foods, snacks, pre-game meals and Seattle restaurants.
The cookbook was compiled by the Mariners Wives, a unique association of wives of Mariners players and coaches. Two previous cookbooks by the group raised more than $320,000 for the Hutch. "Starters & Closers" is available at all Seattle Mariners Team Stores or at 1-800-MY-MARINERS.
