Revolutionary glass artist Dale Chihuly graciously donated a glass-art Hutch Award® in 2006 as a tribute to our namesake, Fred Hutchinson. Chihuly’s glass design is the third incarnation of the Hutch Award.
The common ground between artists and scientists is creativity and the role it plays in how they think and the work they bring into being. Artists and scientists both have unusual powers of observation, an instinctive curiosity about the world, an impetus to find “answers” and the ability to actualize their findings.
They share key values, such as exploring new directions, encouraging creativity and making the world a better place, whether through lifesaving science or life-affirming art. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is proud to partner with Chihuly to continue the tradition of the Hutch Award.
