The Margaret E. Martindale Guild was founded in 1986 by a small group of women in the Sky Mountain area of Bellevue, Wash., who were friends and loved ones of Margaret E. Martindale, known as "Peggy." Peggy died of Neuroblastoma in October 1985, at the very young age of 31. She left behind a husband, an 18-month old daughter, and many friends and relatives.
The Margaret E. Martindale Guild consists of approximately 25 active members, as well as a dozen others who have previously been active and are now supporting members. Members consist of working women, stay-at-home moms, retired women and cancer survivors. Many have grown children, while others are just starting their families. One thing all members of the Martindale Guild have in common is the strong belief in what Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has done and is currently doing for the research and care of cancer patients.
Activities
The Martindale Guild’s primary purpose is to raise money to help fund the Hutchinson Center's vital scientific programs. Additionally, the guild contributes many service hours in support of patients and their families who come to the Center for treatment.
Meetings
Martindale Guild meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month, September through May. Members take turns hosting the meetings in their homes, while others supply dinner and beverages. Being a member of the Margaret E. Martindale Guild is a fulfilling and rewarding way to give something back to the community.
