How to Make Directory Corrections.
Search By: The Search By box on the left side is a drop-down list of different kinds of information to search by: Name, Department, E-mail, Phone, or Mail Stop.
Search For: In the middle, the Search For box is where you enter the search terms, or partial terms. For example, you might type Smith here.
Organization: Below the search boxes, you may select which organization (FHCRC or SCCA) you wish to search, or select "Both" to do a combined search of both. Please note that SCCA results will appear in GREEN.
Search button: Finally, the Search button on the right is what you click to begin your search.
To search for an employee using their name, select Name in the Search By box, then enter the name (or the first part of a name) in the Search For box.
The online Faculty & Staff Directory looks for first, last, and middle names that match. For example:
Smith
This would provide a listing of all employees named "Smith."
Thomps
The online directory would return a list of all employees whose names begin with "Thomps," including "Thompsen" and "Thompson."
Jones I
You would then find all the people named "Jones" who have a first initial of "I" ("Indiana Jones," "Immanuel Jones," and so on).
You can also search for departments. This will give you general information about the department, a link to the list of employees, and a link to related departments.
First, select Department in the Search By box, then enter the name of the department (or the first part of a department name) in the Search For box and click Search.
The online Faculty & Staff Directory uses the information you typed in the Search For box to find complete or partial matches. For example:
If you are looking for "Office of Sponsored Research," you could type:
Sponsored
This would provide a listing of every department with a name that includes the word "Sponsored."
You could also search for:
Research
This would return a listing of every department with a name that includes "Research," including "Office of Sponsored Research."
The online directory also supports searching using e-mail addresses. Select E-mail in the Search By box, then enter the e-mail address (or the first part of an e-mail address) in the Search For box. Finally, click Search.
The online Faculty & Staff Directory looks for complete or partial e-mail addresses that match. For example:
If you are looking for "johndoe@fhcrc.org," you could type:
john
This would provide a listing of every employee with an e-mail address beginning with "john."
To look up a person or a department based on their phone number, select Phone in the Search By box, then enter the phone number, or part of the phone number, you are searching for in the Search For box. Finally, click Search.
The online directory automatically uses only the last 4 digits of your entry to find matches. It searches both phone and fax numbers of people and departments. For example:
If you are looking for "667-1234," you could type:
667-1234
This would provide a listing of the people and departments whose extension is "1234."
4321
This would provide a listing of the people and departments with the extension "4321."
You can find employees and departments based on mail stop: select Mail Stop in the Search By box, enter the mail stop you are searching for in the Search For box, then click Search.
Unlike other search methods, searching by mail stop requires an exact match. For example:
If you are looking for "D1-100," you would type:
D1-100
This would provide a listing of the people and departments with a mail stop of "D1-100."
The results screen has five columns:
The Name column contains several lines of information, depending on whether you viewing an entry for a person or a department.
The Name column of an entry for a person shows first, last, and middle names, plus job title, department and division or organization; department entries show the division or organization, and also include links to employee listings and, for FHCRC results only, related departments. Note that SCCA results appear GREEN.
Entries for people list the following:
Some of these fields may be blank if no information is available.
Entries for departments list the following:
Some of these fields may be blank if no information is available.
Related Departments
Clicking on the link labeled "related departments" explodes the hierarchical
relationship between departments. In the case of Finance & Grants
Management, for example, you would see both Administration and Accounting
(as well as other departments that fall below Finance & Grants
Management). Note that this is available for FHCRC results only.
