About the building
- The Public Health Sciences Building, located at 1100 Fairview Ave. N., Seattle, opened in April 2004 to house Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Public Health Sciences Division. It is the largest and most recent facility to be built on the Center's 14-acre campus on South Lake Union.
- The 372,000 square-foot Public Health Sciences Building houses the largest of the center's four scientific divisions, with more than 900 affiliated faculty and staff. The building's capacity is 1,000 employees, allowing for the recruitment of more scientists.
- The building houses exercise and nutrition-research facilities, open-concept laboratory space, offices and clinics, as well as 33 conference rooms, a cafeteria and coffee bar.
- The facility unites multiple public-health researchers in shared spaces to create the opportunity for increased collaboration. The building's central location offers close proximity to colleagues in clinical research, basic sciences and human biology.
- Environmentally-conscious features include a rainwater-collection system for grounds irrigation, automatically adjusting lights, and use of natural light from the atrium.
- Built by Turner Construction and designed by the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership.
