Friends of the Hutch

Profile

Shore Run

Friends of the Hutch (formerly the Broadmoor-Washington Park Guild) was established in 1975 by a group of neighborhood women that included Charlee Hutchinson Reed, daughter of Dr. William B. Hutchinson, the founder of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The committee has maintained a dynamic and dedicated membership; the daughters of some of the original members are now adding their enthusiasm to the work of the committee.

Activities

The annual Shore Run/Walk, one of the Northwest's most popular road races, is the committee's showcase fund-raiser. With a picturesque route winding along the shore of Lake Washington, the Shore Run/Walk draws thousands of participants annually, from elite runners to casual joggers and walkers. Individual events include a 6.7-mile run from Seward Park to Madison Park, a 3.1-mile run from Leschi to Madison Park, a 3.1-mile walk from Leschi to Madison Park, and a .5-mile Kids Run.

The Shore Run/Walk has raised almost $1.75 million for the Hutchinson Center since 1975, with 3,000 runners and walkers participating annually. The organizational work of the event is managed by various chairs within the committee.
