The Hutch Award Luncheon Planning Committee oversees efforts to raise funds for Hutchinson Center's Gregory Fund® for early cancer detection research through the annual Hutch Award Luncheon. Main responsibilities include guest recruitment and securing corporate sponsorships. The committee also helps develop a luncheon program that celebrates the history of the Hutch Award and the magic of America's favorite pastime baseball. It should come as no surprise that members of the planning committee are passionate about the baseball legacy that comes along with the Hutchinson Center name.
Past winners of the prestigious Hutch Award include Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax, Carl Yastrzemski, Joe Torre, Willie McCovey, Wille Stargell, Lou Brock, Johnny Bench, Curt Schilling, Jamie Moyer, Trevor Hoffman, and Craig Biggio.
Since 1965, the Hutch Award has annually honored a major league baseball player who exemplifies the honor, courage, and dedication of the late Fred Hutchinson. In 1999 a luncheon began to be held in Seattle to honor the recipient. The driving force behind the now annual Hutch Award Luncheon is the Hutch Award Luncheon Planning Committee.
The committee meets once a month for the five months leading up to and the month after the late January event.
