SPAC Board Meetings

SPAC meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month from 3-4pm in D3-120 in the Clinical Building. Coffee/tea and cookies are served. Meeting reminders and agendas are announced via the postdoc-student listserv. Everyone is welcome to attend.

 

First Fridays

First Fridays is a brown-bag series designed to expose graduate students and postdocs to alternative careers in sciences. Presenters speak about their educational and professional paths and motivations behind choices they made at different stages. Speakers represent a broad range of non-traditional science careers such as science writing/journalism, consulting, biotech scientists, careers in government, etc. First Fridays are held at noon on the First Friday of each month.  

 

Ivory Tower Quest Series

SPAC hosts a series of seminars in order to help trainees prepare for different steps of the process to getting a faculty position. Seminars usually take place in the fall and early winter every other year and include the following topics: Putting together the application packet, Interviewing, and Negotiation.

 

Hutch International Movie Night

SPAC sponsors a monthy international movie night to celebrate the diverse international scientific community at the Hutch. Movies are played in Pelton Auditorium with English subtitles with a potluck preceding the movie. Contact Nick Weber at nweber@fhcrc.org to host a movie night.

 

Exploration Program for Industry Careers (EPIC)

The Exploration Program for Industry Careers (EPIC) is a SPAC program geared towards PhD/MDs interested in learning more about the Biotechnology Industry. It includes site visits to local biotech companies and workshops. Application to the EPIC program occurs in the Fall (Nov/Dec) for each academic year. Site visits are restricted to EPIC applicants, but most workshops are open to all current FHCRC postdocs, graduate students, and medical fellows.
