Innovators Network funds support Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's priorities including the Hartwell Innovation Fund.
Established in 2001 by Craig and Marie Mundie in honor of Hutchinson Center president and director emeritus, Dr. Lee Hartwell, the Hartwell Innovation Fund allows the Center to rapidly respond to novel and sometimes unexpected research opportunities. The fund is used for four types of activities essential to maintaining the Center's research excellence:
- Novel research;
- Faculty recruitment;
- Research infrastructure; and
- Groundbreaking large-scale initiatives.
Each year, the directors of the Center's five research divisions solicit proposals for innovative research activities that do not qualify for other standard institutional funding. A small committee then selects proposals that will become Hartwell Innovation Fund projects.

The Hutchinson Center's clinical research breakthroughs are delivered to patients through our treatment arm, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. This collaboration combines the strengths of the Hutchinson Center, UW Medicine and Seattle Children's.
