Anne McTiernan

Anne McTiernan, MD, PhD, Principal Investigator

Dr. McTiernan’s research focuses on identifying ways to prevent new or recurrent breast cancer and colorectal cancer.  She has led several clinical trial and cohort studies investigating the associations among exercise, diet, body weight, hormones, and risk for cancer incidence and prognosis. She has published widely in major medical journals and is lead author of the book, Breast Fitness (St. Martin’s Press, 2000), and Editor, Cancer Prevention and Management Through Exercise and Weight Control (CRC Press LLL, 2005). She has also served on national and international health advisory boards and working groups including the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the American Cancer Society and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. McTiernan works with several other researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center along with a great staff that oversee the daily operations of the ViDA study:
