Dr. Kerry Laing has a new position in VIDI as Staff Scientist.

Dr. Taylor Sandison, University of Washington Allergy and Infectious Diseases acting instructor, is now an affiliate investigator with VIDI.

Dr. Josh Schiffer finished his infectious diseases fellowship and has been appointed research associate in VIDI.

Dr. Corey Casper, VIDI assistant member, has a new appointment at the University of Washington as an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Global Health.

Tomer Hertz’s article Portably Solving File TOCTTOU Races with Hardness Amplification has been selected as one of the winners of IBM Research's 2008 Pat Goldberg Memorial Best Paper Award in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Math.

VIDI welcomes its newest research fellows, starting August 1:

Michael Bolton received his M.D. at the University of California, San Francisco. He has just finished his clinical portion of his ID fellowship at UW/SCCA and will be working with Dr. Julie McElrath on her HIV discordant couple/cellular immunity projects.

Christopher Baliga received his MB, BS (British equivalent to the U.S. M.D.) from Kasturba Medical Col-lege, Manipal, India. He has just finished his clinical portion of his ID fellowship at UW/SCCA and will be working with Dr. Julie McElrath on her innate immunity projects.

Margaret Pollack received her M.D. from Rush Medical College. She did her residency and internship at the Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She finished the clinical portion of her ID fellowship at UW/SCCA and will be working with Dr. Michael Boeckh on viral transmission projects in transplant recipients.

SCHARP has a new Senior Staff Scientist, Shuying "Sue" Li, who transferred from the Quantitative Ge-netic Epidemiology Department in the Public Health Sciences Division in June 1. Li will be working with Steve Self on the HVTN.

VIDI co-director Larry Corey has been appointed as a member of the NCI’s Board of Scientific Counselors-Basic Sciences.

VIDI staff physician Morgan Hakki will be leaving the Center in August to start a new position as Assistant Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Oregon Health and Science University.

VIDI affiliate investigator Rhoda Morrow has been appointed to a new role as Faculty Ombudsman Con-sultant to the Center's new Scientific Ombudsman, Karen Peterson.

VIDI assistant member Corey Casper and affiliate investigator David Koelle have been named Fellows of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
