Medical Oncology Survivors (MOST)

Those of you who have come through cancer treatment may find that after cancer comes a new stage of life. You are now part of a community of cancer survivors, that includes more than 10 million living in the United States today. As a cancer survivor, you may have a new life perspective, and you have a new life situation. You have unique health care needs to be addressed.

As part of the Survivorship Program at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), a new clinic has been developed for general medical oncology survivors treated with conventional therapy and transplant survivors not treated at the Hutchinson Center. This new clinic is the Medical Oncology Survivorship Team (MOST).

The MOST clinic is designed to meet your unique health care needs as a long-term survivor of cancer. This program focuses on keeping you healthy. It addresses many of the physical and emotional complications that can come after cancer and its treatments. Some of these complications include long-term physical health effects to the body organs or emotional effects like sadness, or school and work problems. For most survivors, these late effects are minimal. With education, help, and support, survivors like you can take charge of your health and manage, or prevent, these problems.

As part of the MOST clinic, patients are given a thorough screening and health evaluation by our medical staff, professionals who have dedicated themselves to learning about and dealing with survivorship issues. Medical oncology survivors will leave with a Survivorship Care Plan that lists all of the therapeutic and medical information that is related to your diagnosis and any possible long term effects you might experience. This Survivorship Care Plan will have recommendations for you and your healthcare provider to keep you as healthy and as informed as possible in the future. Medical oncology survivors may receive information on nutrition, exercise, or counseling to help you optimize your health in the years following your cancer treatment.
