Elizabeth Loiselle

At the age of 17 Elizabeth Loiselle was diagnosed with Stage II-A nodular sclerosing Hodgkins lymphoma. Now over seven years later, Elizabeth is a healthy, active survivor preparing to travel overseas to study Chinese. The treatment for Elizabeth's cancer included chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. With a pediatric cancer diagnosis Elizabeth was treated at Seattle Children's and her survivorship care was transferred to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance when she became an adult. She was first seen in the Survivorship Clinic because of her concerns about the long-term effects of Hodgkins and the treatment she received.

"I really appreciate the fact that I have an opportunity to revisit my Survivorship Care Plan at the time of my yearly appointment, determine which follow-up tests make sense for me to get done in the future, and discuss the timing of these tests with my provider."

As part of her consultation, the Survivorship Clinic recommended that Elizabeth have an echocardiography - a noninvasive diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to detect abnormalities of the heart. This will help her and her providers to better understand any effects her cancer treatment may have had on the health of her heart. The results of this test and the wealth of wellness education she received in the Survivorship Clinic reassured Elizabeth that she was healthy. Elizabeth left her appointment with information on local resources as well as the knowledge that she can access our staff with questions or concerns from anywhere in the world.

"It's been a great comfort to have found a clinic that specializes in long-term care for cancer survivors."
