Financial Planning

Cost Of Treatment
Transplantation is very costly. Fees vary from center to center. It is important that the center being considered be able to estimate the cost of treatment, as well as expenses patients and families typically incur for transportation and lodging. If the patient is using an unrelated donor, there will be charges for procurement.

A Seattle Cancer Care Alliance financial representative will contact the patient to obtain preliminary information regarding health insurance. This will also provide an opportunity to ask questions. The financial representative will then contact the insurance company to gather additional information regarding services included under the policy. Using this data, they will evaluate the amount of insurance coverage.

Patient Financial Services
It is important that the center have expert staff available to help with a financial plan for transplant. This may involve working with insurance companies, helping to apply for financial assistance, providing information about fundraising, or working out alternative financial arrangements. One needs to find out what financial requirements must be in place before treatment can begin.

At the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, each patient is assigned a financial representative who provides information about what is required financially to begin treatment and an estimate of the total cost of treatment. The financial representative works with the patient and the insurance company to develop a financial plan to cover the costs of treatment.
