In fashion
on the road
to work

SO MANY staff in the Weiss-Daling Studies changed their commuting habits following the February initiation of the free Hutch Pass and other services for Center commuters that the Public Health Sciences group decided to hold a fashion show featuring some of those who switched modes of transit. The idea of Carol Ure, the show took place during the group's April 7 staff meeting. It showcased bus rider Martha Shellenberger (left), showing off a J.A. Jance mystery, a cell phone and a pillow; Julie Bittner and Bret Dodson (upper left), who carpool in a convertible, complete with windblown scarves (held up during the show with coat hangers), and walker/bus rider Susan Brandzel (sporting an umbrella at the top of page 1). Other commuting implements that were displayed included backpacks with special compartments for Hutch Passes, shoes, socks, helmets and a large roll of tape to quiet back-seat drivers. Participants in the show were (group photo, back row from left) Dallas English, Jude Ballard, Linda Cook, Kay Byron and Dodson; (middle row) Shellenberger, Lynda Voigt and Bittner; and (front row) Jackie Mann, Brandzel, Noemi Epstein and Helen Abbott. Master of ceremonies was Dr. Steve Schwartz. "Look for these smiling faces flying past you on the sidewalks, bike lanes or express lanes," say Bittner and Ure.
