FEATURES

Interdisciplinary Cancer Course Syllabus

Spring Quarter

Metropolitan Park II, 927 A & C (New location)

Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m., followed by informal discussions

Progression of Cancer

Organizers: Sandra Ewaskow, Louise Purton, Julia Sidorova, Steve Tapscott, Tom Vaughan

Once a clone of cancer cells originates, what physiologic parameters allow its progression? Does the progression of cancer ultimately depend on host factors, or is cancer a more independent entity, dictating its metastatic foci and immunologic escape?

April 23 Andrei Tikhonenko: Tumor Metastasis/Growth and Angiogenesis

Marilyn Cornwell: Tumor Survival in a "Hostile" Environment; Drug Resistance

Therapeutics

Organizers: Megan Brown, Steve Collins, Adam Geballe, Deirdra Hill, Julia Sidorova

The Hutchinson Center is one of the world's renowned institutions performing bone marrow transplantation, yet some of us may have only a vague idea how our own colleagues perform it. What are the basics and the current advances in this therapeutic approach? What recent experimental findings are making their way into chemotherapy and immune therapy of cancer?

April 30 Bill Bensinger: Bone & Stem Cell Transplantation

May 7 Steve Friend: Chemotherapy

May 14 Dave Maloney: Antibody Therapy & Cancer Vaccines

May 21 Phil Greenberg: Manipulation of T-cell Immunity for the Treatment of Cancer.

Videotapes of talks in this series are available in the libraries at all three campuses, starting with the Feb. 12 talk.
