The focus of our laboratory is to ascertain the protective immune responses to herpes simplex virus (HSV) in humans. Cellular immunity, or T cell immunity, is most closely associated with severe herpes disease. We are interested in characterizing both local and systemic T cell responses to HSV in immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients as well as in patients who appear to resist infection to HSV.
