There are extensive links between the University of Washington Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the faculty of the Program in Infectious Disease/Division of Virology. Dr. Corey is the Associate Director of the CFAR program and is also the Director of the Clinical Research Core. This core operates a clinical evaluation site at the Madison Street Clinic. The CFAR clinic has focused its efforts at better understanding the clinical, virologic and immunologic parameters associated with primary HIV infection. These research efforts are described in detail above in the Immunology and Molecular Virology of Acute HIV Infection page. The Clinical Retrovirology Core Laboratory is directed by Robert Coombs, MD, and the Molecular Immunology Core laboratory is directed by Juliana McElrath, MD. Both laboratories coordinate research efforts through Dr. Corey's Clinical Research Center. In addition, Dr. McElrath will direct a new flow cytometry facility at the FHCRC Clinical Research Building.
