SEP Scientists and Volunteersa mentor scientist and teacher

Science mentors are drawn from the Hutchinson Center as well as partner sites in Seattle including the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, Pacific Northwest Research Institute, Amgen Corporation, and ZymoGenetics, Inc. Teachers thus have the opportunity to experience a wide range of research settings and topics.

We welcome vounteers from the Fred Hutchinson Center and from other Seattle area research institutions and biotechnology companies. To find out more about other science institutions involved with SEP, please visit our Partner Sites.

In 1996, we expanded our mentor group to include graduate students in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Program, a joint program among the Hutchinson Center, the University of Washington and the Institute for Systems Biology. Graduate students can elect to work with the SEP program as a component of their teaching requirement, giving them an unparalleled opportunity to work closely with outstanding teachers to strengthen their ability to share their passion for science with the teachers, students, and the public.

How to Get Involved

There are many volunteer opportunities available - here are just a few!

We also make available our extensive resource library to those who are interested in sharing a particular science topic with a school class or group. Please contact us for further information.

For scientists interested in education, please see Beyond SEP.
