Applicant Information
We invite middle and high school science teachers from public
schools, private schools, or home schools in Washington State to apply.
Note: Due to our 20th Anniversary Celebration, there will not be a new cohort for 2010.
Each
application is read by SEP mentor scientists, and each select one
teacher-applicant as a partner for participation in SEP. Twenty-five
teachers are selected each year to join the SEP community.
When are applications available for the 2011 Cohort?
We will begin accepting applications for the 2011 cohort after January 1, 2011. You can download one as a PDF here, or you can contact us and we will send you one by mail.

What is the application timeline?
Applications should be postmarked by March 1.
Notification of cohort participants by April 15.
| What time commitment does the SEP program require? |
You must commit to attending ALL scheduled days in order to participate.

Scheduled days for the 2011-12 SEP program include:

- Opening Day: Saturday, May 21, 2011
- Summer Session: Weekdays, July 11 - July 27, 2011
- Kit Signup Day: Saturday, September 17, 2011
- Reflection Day: Saturday, May 5, 2012

During the program you will keep a laboratory notebook, prepare a curriculum project, and participate in program evaluation.

Additional requirements:
- Participants
are responsible for any lodging and food expenses, as well as
transportation to and from Seattle. If this poses an impediment to
participating, please explain and send in this additional form with
your application. Application addendum
- Your district must commit one day of release time, or equivalent, as evidence of support for your application.
Program perks:
- Participants receive a $500 stipend for their training.
- Upon completion of all program requirements, participants
may earn 5 hours of graduate level credit (at low cost) through the
University of Washington Department of Genome Sciences or 50 clock
hours through WSTA.
- Ongoing access to SEP Kits, resources, technical support, and surplus lab supplies.
