Research Interests

I joined the Peichel lab in 2007 and am fortunate enough to to oversee the daily care and maintenance of the lab's model species the threespine stickleback. I first got my feet wet so to speak volunteering at the Seattle Aquarium taking care of their exotic fish and invertebrate species. I also managed the fish department of a large pet store and have kept fish at home since I was a child.

In addition to all the animal husbandry I do I am currently working on cloning genes/markers on the Y chromosome of the threespine stickleback as part of the sex chromosome evolution work being done in the lab. I am also working on my Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Prior to coming to the lab I was working on an organic farm through WWOOF learning about sustainable agriculture in Hawaii.
