Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness Research and Training

Regional PI: Vicky Taylor MD, MPH

The Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research, and Training (AANCART) is one of the Special Populations Networks recently funded by the NCI. The objectives of these networks are to: foster cancer awareness through infrastructure development in minority communities; support enhanced minority recruitment to clinical trials; promote the participation of minority scientist in research; and implement research initiatives involving minority groups. AANCART involves investigators from Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle.

In the Seattle region, the project will focus on community development and health education in the Cambodian and Vietnamese communities (but also work with other Asian communities); develop a Pan Asian council to advise on the goals of AANCART among Asian groups in the region; sponsor a cancer control conference focusing on Cambodian Americans in 2002; and develop projects addressing key questions for cancer control in our local Asian communities.
