Genetic Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer (PROGRESS)

PI: Janet Stanford PhD

The objective of this ongoing study is to identify hereditary prostate cancer loci. High-risk prostate cancer families (n=306) have been ascertained nationwide. Affected men, unaffected men and selected women completed baseline and follow-up questionnaires and a blood draw. A genome scan with 440 molecular markers has been completed. The next step involves ongoing recruitment of minority families, analyses of genomic scan data including clinical data and information on other cancers in the family, analysis of data on interest in genetic testing, a follow-up questionnaire to update family cancer history, and medical record reviews for clinical data in newly diagnosed men.
