ExCel Study - Eligibility

Who can join the study?

You may be eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria:

• You are a women age 35 and older
• You have gone through menopause (have stopped having periods)
• You are at an elevated risk for developing breast cancer (such as family history or previous benign breast diseases) or are age 60 or older
• You are willing to travel to Seattle for a clinic visit once a year for 5 years
• You have had a DEXA Scan and Mammogram within the past 12 months or are willing to have one prior to enrollment in the study.

Exclusions for this study include:

• Use of any hormone products (such as: Premarin, Estrace, Ogen, etc.) or herbal hormone preparations (like Refeminin) or other hormone treatments such as Tamoxifen, Raloxifene, Lupron, Zoladex, Parlodel or Megace in the last 3 months
• Uncontrolled hypo- or hyperthyroidism, chronic liver disease
• Previous diagnosis of invasive breast cancer
• Any other prior invasive cancer unless cancer was treated and patient has been disease free for 5 or more years
