ExCel Study - Participation Requirements
What is involved in the screening process?
If you qualify for the study and are interested in participating,
you will be asked to complete a number of screening activities.
These will include:
- Questionnaires about your medical history and health habits
- A clinic visit (including collection of blood and urine samples) at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
- Baseline mammogram with your own provider (if no mammogram in the past 12 months)
- Baseline DEXA scan with your own provider (if no DEXA scan in the past 12 months)
How is the study designed?
Women eligible for the study will be randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups and all women will take one pill per day for five years.
What are the two treatment groups?
If you are in Group A you will get 1 exemestane tablet per day.
If you are in Group B you will get 1 placebo tablet per day, which is an inactive substance that does not have any of the medicine being studied in the trial.
Neither you nor the investigators nor staff at Fred Hutchinson will know what medications you have been given.
