Eligibility for the Study
This study is currently enrolling African American families with several men with prostate cancer. For example, a family with a father and several brothers diagnosed with prostate cancer may be eligible. The men with prostate cancer must be from the same side of the family (either the mother's side or the father's side) and be related by blood, not by marriage. Your family may be eligible to join if:
- Two or more African American men related by blood
have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and
- at least two of these men are living.
If your family joins the Prostate Cancer Genetic Research Study, family members will be asked to:
- Complete a brief mailed health questionnaire, and have a sample of blood drawn.
No physical examinations are required. Family members both with and without prostate cancer, including men and selected women, will be asked to participate. You and your family will not have to travel to be in the study. The study staff will arrange and pay for the blood to be drawn in your doctor's office or a laboratory in your area.
