Nutrition Data Systems for Research (NDS-R) Software

Nutrition Assessment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center uses Nutrition Data Systems for Research software (NDS-R) developed by the Nutrition Coordinating Center (NCC) at the University of Minnesota for data entry and nutrient analysis. In addition, the database for the FFQ developed by Fred Hutchinson is based on the nutrient strings in the NDS-R.

NDS-R uses the United States Department of Agriculture Nutrient Database for Standard Reference and its periodic revisions as the primary data source and is supplemented by information from the scientific literature and food manufacturers. The output provides values for 130+ nutrients and other compounds such as carotenoids and trans fatty acids. For more detailed information on the FFQ developed by Fred Hutchinson, see the technical documentation.
