Leadership

Because of its interdisciplinary nature, the institute has three co-directors representing three disciplines:

Larry Corey, M.D. Larry Corey, M.D.
Co-Director & Senior Vice President of VIDI

Dr. Corey is head of the Infectious Disease Sciences Program. He is also head of the University of Washington's Virology Division, and the Principal Investigator of the Hutchinson Center-based international HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN). He is also a professor of medicine and laboratory medicine.

Co-Director of VIDI

Dr. McElrath is the head of the Immunology & Vaccine Development Program. She is the Principle Investigator of the HVTN Laboratory Program and the Seattle HIV Vaccine Trials Unit. Dr. McElrath is also a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and Division of Infectious Diseases at the UW School of Medicine.

Steve Self, Ph.D. Steve Self, Ph.D.
Co-Director of VIDI

Dr. Self is the head of the Population Sciences Program, co-head of the Program in Biostatistics and Biomathematics at the Hutchinson Center. He is also a professor of biostatistics in the UW School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
