Cassian Yee receives Fialkow Scholar Award from UW

Nov. 6, 2003

Dr. Cassian Yee, an inves-tigator in the Clinical Research Division, is the seventh recipient of the University of Washington's Philip J. Fialkow Scholar Award. The Fialkow Award honors the late UW Dean of Medicine Philip Fialkow and his wife, the late Helen Fialkow, and recognizes the outstanding achievements of junior faculty in medicine.

Yee, also an assistant professor of medicine at UW, develops immune-based therapies for the treatment of cancer patients. Last year, he and colleagues published results of a preliminary clinical trial that demonstrated that T cells can target tumor cells in patients with metastatic melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.

Yee attended medical school at the University of Manitoba, completed a residency in internal medicine at Stanford University and held a fellowship in oncology at UW and Fred Hutchinson.

He will deliver a lecture on "Modern Tumor Immunotherapy" at the Dept. of Medicine Grand Rounds at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in room T-625 of the UW Health Sciences Center.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is a world leader in research to prevent, detect and treat cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
